PENETRATING RUN - TACTICAL EXERCISES
Author: Marco Ceccomori
Exercises proposed in this collection aim at training advancing moves without the ball of players coming from the back line or from midfield, ultimately leading to a shot on goal. The type of advancing move being considered is a penetrating run (“inserimento” in Italian soccer jargon). It refers to the movement without the ball of a player, who quickly advances from the back line or from midfield, with the objective of developing a combination with one or more attacking teammates, leading to a shot on goal. The “inserimento” is associated with two important principles of the attacking phase: mobility and position interchange. Mobility is the ability to implement timely movements on the part of the teammates of the player in possession of the ball, in order to create effective attacking opportunities. Position interchange is the combination of movements including exchange of position between two or more players, belonging to two different team’s sectors (“vertical interchange”) or within the same team’s sector (“horizontal interchange”). Capitalizing with maneuvers that start with a penetrating run is very important when the opposing team is tightly organized around its penalty box and our team has great difficulty in getting through with lateral attacks. In this collection Ceccomori illustrates how the attacking projection (penetrating run) of a player from the back or midfield sector can destabilize the defensive organization of the opponents.
EXPLOITING WIDTH: TACTICAL EXERCISES
Author: Marco Ceccomori
The ability of capitalizing on attacking moves on the flanks of the field is of fundamental importance for a team in its offensive maneuvers.
Especially when facing teams that organize a tight defense in their half of the field, by closing well all spaces, the search for plays that utilize the whole width of the field is a necessary solution to approach favorable positions for shooting on goal.
Independently of the tactical scheme utilized, optimal solutions focus on serving an unmarked player in the right position to send in a cross, possibly to be redirected in goal by a teammate positioned in the middle. This objective can be more easily achieved if the team in possession of the ball is able to take advantage of rapid switches of play toward the “ weak side” through rapid switches of play (i.e., taking advantage of the fact that defending teams concentrate their players in the zone where the ball is).
Marco Ceccomori, very competent and experienced coach, presents 12 technical-tactical exercises to help training the team to read the context of the game and create the tactical conditions for lateral attacks.
TRAINING OF INDIVIDUAL SKILLS IN REDUCED SPACES
Author: Garcea - Macri - Cacicia
Exercises included in this library are particularly recommended for the perfection and strengthening of the player’s individual ability, and have the specific objective of training the player’s skill in the attacking phase (positioning, marking, first touch, ball control, dribbling, shooting) and in the non possession phase (defensive positioning, marking, tackling).
The variety of the proposed exercises, and their entertaining format, help the coach in maintaining the level of interest and the players’ participation quite high. The exercises are developed in reduced spaces, in order to mimick game conditions and to involve, continuously or on a rotational basis, all the players.
EXERCISES IN REDUCED SPACES FOR TRAINING BALL CONTROL AND BALL DRIBBLING
Author: Garcea - Macri - Cacicia
Modern soccer shows teams paying more and more attention to the defensive phase, by closing spaces and reducing playing time when the opponents are in possession of the ball. Therefore, tactical ability related to ball protection, ball dribbling and shooting on goal have particular importance toward the effort of breaking through defenses and creating numeral superiority that would lead to shots on goal. This didactic progression has two objectives.
The first is of moral and psychological nature, in that a positive outcome of training exercises helps in maturing the player’s personality, with the direct result of preparing athletes capable of taking initiatives, without fear of taking risks or making mistakes, when challenged in the game.
The second objective is of technical nature and aims to improve specific aspects (ball control and ball dribbling) of the modern soccer player. This collection contains specific analytical exercises, in addition to games and real game situations. They all share the objective of stimulating ball control, dribbling and shooting on goal. The exercises are enjoyable and effective, and help the overall coordination needed to adapt well to the typical functions of a soccer player.
